Worried about Children's Snacks Outside the Home? Here are Tips for Choosing Healthy Snacks for Children
Our children who are still growing need time to get to know their environment. One of them is by doing activities with friends both at school and in the surrounding environment. Especially at school age, our children will often spend time with their friends at school. Sometimes parents will worry about things that can affect the growth and development of children at this age, one of which is what children eat. Snacks that attract the eye, with unique shapes and a variety of flavors offered are certainly tempting for our children and cause concern for parents, whether these snacks are good or not for the health of the baby.
There are lots of snacks that are usually found on the side of the road or sold near schools, ranging from sweet, salty and spicy flavors to various flavored drinks wrapped in plastic or food in styrofoam. The question that hangs in the minds of parents is whether these snacks affect the health of our children. The answer is, of course. One of the main dangers of unhealthy snacks for our children is digestive disorders. Unhygienic food and lots of dyes can interfere with our children's digestive health and cause stomach aches, including worms and bacterial infections. The most dangerous thing that can happen is food poisoning, such as the case of child poisoning due to eating chiki ngebul in Tasikmalaya, West Java some time ago.
With this condition, as parents, of course we need to prepare and educate our children about how to choose healthy snacks when outside the home, especially when our children are not under the direct supervision of their parents. In addition to providing healthy provisions for children, of course, parents can accustom children to love cooking and food at home. If you have to snack, teach your children not to snack carelessly. One of them is to avoid snacks in the open and without a cover or food that is not protected by food packaging. Apart from that, also teach children to choose a place to sell food that is clean and free from dust, street smoke and snacks wrapped in used paper that still has ink on it.
As parents or teachers, we can also show children a hygienic place to buy food, for example in the school canteen. Also advise children not to only choose one snack option, food must be varied so that the nutritional needs of each child are also met. To fulfill this, there is nothing wrong for parents or teachers to immediately see and monitor what snacks are available at school or food that children usually buy. Accompanying children when shopping for their favorite food can be a factor to increase alertness and can be a means to educate our children about the important factors food enters the body for their health.
Our children are the next generation of this nation and of course their parents are very proud of them. The quality of the nation and family in the future is determined by the quality of today's children. Because of that it is important to pay attention to improving the quality of our
children early, including choosing healthy food and snacks for the baby.
