Love Nature and the Environment? Let's Teach Children How.

Childhood is the right time for parents to teach various things to our children. One of them is teaching children how to protect and care for nature and the surrounding environment. This not only cultivates children to become more caring individuals, but also teaches children to be disciplined, independent and not selfish. On the other hand, children who are used to interacting with nature and the surrounding environment will become more responsible for every action they do.

Then, how do you make children love and care more about nature? Start with the smallest and simplest things first, like throwing trash in its place. This seems simple but has a very big impact both on the child's personality and on nature and its surroundings. Explain to children that it is very important to dispose of trash in its place to maintain the beauty of the environment. Parents can start this by giving an example directly to the child to foster habits also to the baby.

Occasionally invite children to camp in the open. Spending a weekend for example in the middle of a tourist forest with camping can make children become closer to nature and strengthen the relationship between children and parents. Camping can also give the impression of direct interaction with nature and an unforgettable beautiful experience for children. If you have trouble taking the time to go camping, Mom and Dad can take the children around the neighborhood while learning together about the trees or the animals they meet.

Next, let the child explore and express themselves to engage in outdoor play activities. Don't get banned too much, Mom and Dad should be able to remind and supervise the baby from things that are dangerous. KAnother activity that can be done is to invite children to participate in recycling or sorting waste, sort organic and inorganic waste, and don't be afraid of being dirty so that children care more about nature and its surroundings.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) 2021 notes that Indonesia's plastic waste reaches 66 million tons per year. Meanwhile, according to a 2018 study by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), an estimated 0.26 million-0.59 million tons of plastic flows into the sea. This amount makes Indonesia the second largest plastic waste producing country in this world. From this data, the thing we can do as parents for our children is to start teaching our little ones to reduce the use of plastic waste in everyday life. For example, when taking your little one shopping for necessities, we can use pocket recycling shopping. Apart from that, it also gets your little one used to carrying a tumbler when traveling so thatNo adding plastic waste of course.

The role of the family is very important so that children are more concerned with nature and the surrounding environment. The note is to start with yourself first, make Father and Mother a good example to children. Because teaching without practicing will have no meaning at all for children. Come on, let's start protecting the environment starting with us and our families
