3 Ways to Teach Leadership to Children

leadership in children

Having a leadership spirit is important for children, especially when they enter the school environment. Children not only need to lead their other friends, but also to lead themselves so they can manage their time and energy well. Parents need to understand that being a leader requires training in activities that are usually carried out by children. How to train it is not enough just to be ordered or only asked to lead, but there needs to be an example given by parents. How do you do it?

Invite children to discuss determining their activities in the next week

Children aged 7-12 years and even teenagers must have lots of activities to support their growth and development. Not only school from morning to evening, there are activities such as music lessons, school extracurriculars, and maybe going out with friends that you want to do in one week. To train children's planning skills, invite them to discuss what activities they want to do in one week.

For example, make a visual schedule on a blackboard or an application on a child's cell phone regarding a timetable. Give children the opportunity to choose at least 3 main activities that they want to do that week. If the child manages to arrange his own schedule, give appreciation.

Give space for children to lead

One example of space that parents can do is allow children to manage their younger siblings or older siblings at home if they have siblings at home. For example, when there is an event at home, ask the children to share tasks between brothers and sisters and ask one child to be the leader at home during the event. When things are going well, give appreciation to all the children who successfully complete their tasks.

Not only when there is an event, when you are on vacation, also give your child the opportunity to arrange the games he wants to play at home. For example, when the older brother wants to play hide and seek at home and invites everyone in the house, then come play with him. Children's initiative to invite people to play at home is also a form of leadership. Children have a desire to be involved in any activities at home.

Register your child for camping activities

One of the activities that can train children's leadership is by enrolling children in activities such as camping or retreats from certain schools or institutions. Activities such as staying in a new place with other children of the same age will train children's ability to communicate with new people, lead themselves in preparing their needs, and also practice cooperation with others during games.

Not only his friends who are the same age, there are also other children who may be older and also mentors who will teach him how to lead properly. Children need examples and new environments to train them to adapt to new situations. Child leadership will be highly trained in events ranging from 2-3 days. If there is such an institution or event at school, don't forget to register your child!

These leadership skills are not only important while the child is in school, they are also important in the long term. Children can boldly make friends with everyone, listen to others, and also practice cooperation as befits an ideal leader.
